Spirit week is upon us, and Raiders are eager to have some fashion fun! Spirit week is the week of Homecoming, which is the week of October 14-18! Each day, Raiders will wear school appropriate clothing that represents the theme for that day! The important thing about having a week is that it creates more hype for Homecoming, show Raider Spirit, but most importantly have fun! It is a great time that everyone is looking forward to, so let’s go over the theme for each day, plus examples of each!
Monday – Jersey vs. Jersey Shore
Monday, Oct. 14 starts off Spirit Week with the theme Jersey vs. Jersey Shore! Grades 9 and 10 will participate in this theme by wearing outfits resembling jerseys! This means something sport related, like a football or basketball jersey! Grades 11 and 12 will participate by wearing beachy or tropical vacation clothes! Jersey Shore is referencing the coastline of New Jersey, a U.S. state on the far east.
Things Underclassmen (grades 9 and 10) can wear are school jerseys from LHS school teams, or the jerseys of one of your favorite sports players. Upperclassmen, (grades 11 and 12) can wear some blue button-up with pineapples and khaki shorts. That’s only an example, there are so many different things you can wear that represent a nice beach vacation on the Jersey shore.
Tuesday – USA Day
On October 15, Raiders will be encouraged to wear clothes and accessories representing the United States of America! Tuesday is all about showing your patriotism for our country, and to still build the hype for Homecoming! Both under and Upperclassmen can wear the colors red, white, and blue, to show patriotism. Some people might also be able to wear a George Washington costume and wig, we’re totally here for it! Having a day like this reminds everyone of the patriotism there is for America, and brings people together!
Wednesday – Mamma mia vs. Pirates of the Caribbean
On the third day of spirit week, the theme is Mamma mia vs. Pirates of the Caribbean! Both of them are movies, so things referencing the movies are encouraged! Mamma Mia is a movie about a young girl trying to find her real father by inviting certain people to a wedding… I don’t want to spoil it all, so it is recommended to watch it in your free time! Pirates of the Caribbean is a very popular movie as well, it’s about a group of pirates and their adventures, mainly focusing on three characters. Again, I do not want to spoil anything. So, if you haven’t watched any of the movies yet, it is highly recommended to do so!
On this day, there are no requirements regarding grade level; everyone’s free to choose what to wear. If you choose to participate, Mamma Mia can be represented by wearing a suit or a nice dress to represent a wedding! Pirates of the Caribbean on the other hand, dress as a pirate; maybe with a striped shirt and black pants with red accessories! Embrace your creativity with your outfits, the only setback is that weapons or look-alike weapons are prohibited! All outfits throughout the week must follow SMCPS Code of Conduct.
Thursday – Class Theme Day
Each class has a theme of their own, chosen by fellow students, and today everyone should represent their class themes! The Freshmen’s theme is Midsommar, Sophomores have Dia de los Muertos, Juniors have St. Patrick’s Day, and Seniors are assigned to Mardi Gras! Themes this year are based on holidays from different countries, which help represent different cultures from around the world!
Raiders should most definitely look up each holiday so everyone gets a grasp on different ideas. For example, the Sophomores were assigned Dia de los Muertos, so possible outfits can be skull face-paint with a bright flowery shirt and black pants. This day is important because it shares many different cultures from all around the world, from Sweden to Spain!
Friday – Spirit Day
It’s officially Homecoming, the day everyone is waiting for! The final theme is class colors! Freshmen are gray, Sophomores are white, Juniors are Raider blue, and Seniors are black! The pep rally is also today, so make sure you wear your class colors to show your spirit, and strive for the spirit stick.
Lastly…
In regards to dressing up every day this week, everyone must still follow the SMCPS dress code and code of conduct. Weapons and look-alike weapons are prohibited, so no swords when dressing up as a pirate! It is still possible to wear fun outfits while following the rules. And as always, stay Raider STRONG!
