March 27, 2017
WHAT’S UP GURL? How are you? Are you feeling happy? Positive? Confident? I certainly hope so! It’s SO important for you to feel good about yourself and be confident in who you are. You are a beautiful person and don’t ever be afraid to be yourself unapologetically! Self-love is a factor that can contribute greatly to numerous aspects in your life. According to the Huffington Post, here are the top five science-backed reasons on why it is important to love yourself.
Accepting yourself can make you happier! Research shows that self-acceptance will result in greater satisfaction with your life. However this is a habit that many fail to practice. In order to see yourself the way others see you, ask your close friends to share what they think are your strengths, then return the favor. You will soon see what stands out the most, and you will be delighted about the love and kindness you shared in return.
It could encourage you to reach health goals! Research published in the Journal Health Psychology found that encouraging yourself instead of being hard on yourself can lead to better health decisions. A way to keep track of your goals is by writing them down. Studies show that when you write your goals down on paper, it improves both your health and well-being.
Self-compassion can help with mental health issues! Those who have higher self-compassion are less at risk for developing depression or anxiety, according to the New York Times. Research also shows that loving yourself results in increased optimism. Students who place their self-worth on moral values are less stressed and perform better academically.
It can push you to stop procrastinating! Self-love can reduce stress that causes procrastination because it helps us recognize the downside of the habit without putting us in a negative thought spiral. If you’re ever worried about a situation, try doing some self-affirming, which has been proven to increase problem-solving skills when you’re stressed.
Loving yourself can guide you through adversity! We all know that life is filled with its highs and lows. But when dealing with one of life’s many challenges, a little self-love can put you back on top. A study in the Journal Psychological Science found that recently divorced individuals who spoke with love about themselves were able to recover quicker in the months following their separation than those who spoke about themselves critically. To begin talking about yourself compassionately, try meditation! It will give you a momentary boost in self-esteem.
It’s important to remember that you are not only a beautiful person, but you are loved! There’s no reason to not let your fabulous personality shine. Go out and let people fall in love with the wonderful person you are!
With all the love in the world,
