One of the new, exciting events going on this spring at Leonardtown is the organization of the powderpuff football team that Coach Nines put together. This isn’t just an ordinary football team, though. The freshmen play the sophomores class and junior play the senior class. The players are girls, and the cheerleaders are the boys. For uniforms, the cheerleaders will wear pink shirts, shorts, and socks. And, as a surprise, some might even wear skirts! Powderpuff football is not tackle; its flag football. Mr. Nines seemed very excited about this up and coming sport. “I’m trying to make it a new tradition. Powderpuff games are always the best football games to watch!” said Mr. Nines.
“A lot of the people are wild, but we have a lot of fun,” said Aaliyah Fields, a freshman on the team. I think it is safe to say that this is going to be very intense. The first powderpuff game is May 4th. And if the pink male cheerleaders haven’t had you convinced, this might do the trick; all proceeds go to Relay for Life. When you come to the game, you tell which class you’re from and/or supporting when you sign in, and whichever class has more supporters gets an advantage on the field. Come out and support your team!
