DISCLAIMER: The following review concerns a topic that some readers may be sensitive too
Playboi Carti, Sam Smith, Robert Johnson, And Marilyn Manson you may recognize some of these musical artists for being seen as “Demonic” individuals. People often say that they sell their souls for the opportunity to gain fame, there are many hints to this in lines said in rappers’ songs, such as Jeffery Lamar Williams also known as Young Thug, who says in his song “Solid”: “I have been thinkin’ ’bout selling my soul” or when Rodrick Wayne Moore, Jr. A.K.A Roddy Ricch said in the Chorus of “The Box”: “I won’t ever sell my soul and I can back that.” Many rappers hint at this soul-selling trend, but why?
Who Have “Sold Their Souls”
There are plenty of people who are speculated to have sold their souls Emeinm, Juice Wrld, Playboi Carti, and many more. People have reserved feelings about why they could’ve sold it, but the general consensus is that it was for fame. The real question is, is it even possible to sell your soul in the first place.” Most people believe that anything is possible if you try hard enough and don’t take any shortcuts or else you can die… Even with knowing this information it still can be hard to pinpoint those artists that people claimed to have sold their souls. This leads to conspiracies, like the Illuminati where they believe that any famous person has already sold their soul for fame.
What is Doja then?
Looking into Doja Cat’s transformation there is a lot of information that just doesn’t add up, such as Doja just recently in August became the most listened to female “rap” artist with a staggering total of 70.6 million monthly listeners after she released her hit single Paint The Town Red. She reached these unprecedented numbers in such a short amount of time with her lead single to her album Scarlett, the album didn’t sell as well only reaching 71k units within its first week after its initial release. To put this in perspective Travis Scott reached the most monthly listeners for a male rap artist in August too with an absurd total of 71.8 million listeners. When his album was released the month before Jul 28, 2023, Travis sold over 500k units in the first week. Looking at both, these kinds of numbers are generally unheard of. Another example is Drake who reached 75 million listeners this past month, with his album release of “For All the Dogs” on Oct 6, 2023, Drake even reaching 400k units sold. That begs the question, is Doja an anomaly? I would say no. Personally, this looks like a marketing tactic, artists have done it before, Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti come to mind first people constantly use the devil to promote their music when they have no ties to him at all, but we have to wait and see how Doja Cat progresses…
