As many of us know, texting while driving is very dangerous. Many teenagers have the urge to text while they are driving a vehicle, which is an extremely bad decision. A simple reply as “k” could result in the loss of a life. The texting while driving poll asked the question, “Have you ever sent a text while driving?” The answers were; Yes 61.61%, No 38.39%. That’s obviously saying people don’t understand how dangerous it really is. I think all states should make a no texting while driving law, but people still continue to do it. Those people don’t know the dangers of it. If you text while driving, you’re taking at least one hand off the wheel and one eye off the road. At Leonardtown High School, we had a speaker come in and show all the classes stories about the dangers of it. It terrified me. Think to yourself, do you really need to respond that badly? Do you want to risk your life? I, personally, wouldn’t over something that stupid.
Ms.Chappelear says, “I think that it starts out as innocent, but people don’t know the severity of the action and the horrible consequences that could come from it.” Ms.Chappelear isn’t the only one with an opinion. “I would probably just call,” said sophomore Jimmy Angle. Studies have shown that texting while driving is worse than drunk driving, now that’s bad. I think more schools should talk to the students about texting while driving. If they don’t listen, then they will suffer the consequences. A good way to not text and drive is to put your phone on silent, use hand free equipment, and slow down. Laws for texting while driving have grown in the past years since the number of accidents has been increasing. There are many texting while driving commercials and advertisements. People should start paying more attention to them instead of risking a life. Just don’t do it.
