There are so many Christmas movies out there, but which ones are titled the best among communities? According to multiple sources ranging from Reddit posts to professional articles, only a few come out on top. Each winner will have an overall description of the movie, along with why it is recommended!
It’s a Wonderful Life
The Christmas movie that came in first place was It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)! This movie might seem old, but it truly is a classic. The story takes place in Bedford Falls, where our main character George owns a truly remarkable banking and loan business. George eventually loses $8,000 due to a competing business trying to ruin everything, and take over the town. George is charged and put in jail. He never committed this crime, obviously, but because of the downfall of his business he thinks deeply about his friends and family, and contemplates ending his own life. Thankfully, the people he cares about most prayed for him, and George’s guardian angel, Clarence, talks with him and shows him what life, and the world, would be like if George himself never existed. This movie is highly recommended as it puts the audience through a series of emotions, both sadness and despair, to happiness and laughter. If you are looking for a nice Christmas movie to sit back, relax, and enjoy with a nice plate of cookies, this one’s for you.
A Christmas Story
This movie may also be considered old-fashioned, but is most definitely one of the best Christmas movies out there. A Christmas Story (1983) is an iconic comedy movie told in a series of stories, with the narrator, who is also our main character, being Ralphie Parker. The first story begins with adult Ralphie narrating the story of 9 year old Ralphie really wanting a certain rifle for Christmas, though his request is repeatedly denied, his mother says the iconic line, “you’ll shoot your eye out!” Eventually, he gets the rifle he always desired, but eventually, things take a turn for the worst. A Christmas Story is one of the highest rated movies relating to Christmas, and is most definitely able to put almost anyone at the edge of their seats. It’s funny, and definitely worth a watch!
Elf
“Elf” (2003) is a movie almost everyone has seen, it is absolutely hilarious. Our main character is played by the beloved Will Ferrell, which makes this movie even more comedic. “Elf” is about a child from an orphanage crawling into Santa’s sack of presents, and is taken back to the North Pole. This child grows up to be one with the elves, even despite his height being taller than “average”. This lucky but unlucky elf is named Buddy, and he will go through a series of events in order to contact his biological father. Buddy sure is a loveable character, and cracks amazing jokes throughout the movie that are sure to put anyone into a fit of laughter.
Overall, these top three movies are the ones most recommended to watch, especially if you haven’t seen them before! So, put on your comfiest pajamas, and lay on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn, and watch to your heart’s content. If not, just remember to relax over winter break, you truly deserve it!
